the 360 scare
My xbox 360 has already broken once. 1 and a half months + $150 later it was fixed. Now i just started getting the red flashes, it wouldnt turn on. I started looking online for a store that would repair it, because i dont have a month and a half to wait. 10 minutes later, it started working again. I havnt turned it off since, so im not sure if its going to stay working, but does anyone know of any stores that would repair an Xbox? Price is not as big of an issue.
this Xbox was used and bought off of amazon.com, im not sure if that changes anything or not. |

Easiest and cheapest way is to call Xabox they'll send you a box and you ship it to them and in about 3 or 4 weeks they'll send you a brand new one for free.
|
Sounds like a bad experience...working for PS3 though in all honesty I see the same shit happen, someone had their console in for repairs, comes back in not working, gets repaired again, and same deal...of course this happens here and there and not all that much, but the repair side of the company can be really SHIT sometimes...
|
Yeah, i called microsoft and they sent out the box, i've already done that once, and it takes forever, im going to be traveling this year, i dont have time for that.

HAHAHA!
Console scum, that is what you get! I have only had to send in my PC 4 or 5 times in the past year for repairs. Wait a sec... I still swear by PCs over consoles. to be honest, any toy i get my hands on needs repairs pretty often. Computer, car, my gameboy when I had one. I run shit pretty hard. |

i heard that gamestop will replace your broken Xbox for and Xbox elite...but if I'm not sure if your allowed to keep the old hard drive. |
What i find interesting is the console that seems to be having all of the problems is made by the company that makes the operating system for gaming pcs.
My career is pure Microsoft, and the products I use work like clockwork, but MS's other ventures... they are scary sometimes. |

Apparently these pieces of shit only last about 2 years:mad: |
This is becoming quite a serious problem...I wonder why MS is not paying enough attention towards it.
The red rings are making me very apprehensive of getting one for myself. My PS3 and Wii have been excellent so far, without any problems...so I think I will wait a little longer to see if MS addresses this issue and brings out a new version which has this bugging problem fixed. |
Quote:
I'v had 3 fail in just over three years i'd say its a big fucking problem |
Microsoft has a buggy product? No FUCKING way!

I would like to get one, but it would piss me off badly if I bought it and it red ringed, especially since I knew how likely it would be. It is a real shame that Microsoft haven't done anything to stop this problem from happening in subsequent revisions. |
Meh, get one at BB and get the warranty. Although for anyone with a PS3, with so many cross console titles, I would wait until the price drops some more. I'm waiting on the PS3 to drop and the only reason I got the 360 first was the first couple waves of games and exclusives (not to mention the fact that companies were coding the PS3 versions of certain titles poorly). I guess if I had neither right now I'd still go for the 360 though, I've been waiting for Fable 2 for a while now.
|
Unfortunately in Australia we don't have BB. I'm pretty sure most places here would make you send the console away and wait for a replacement/repair (not sure if you get a refurbished one or your own back).

Hopefully a future, much cheaper version with this problem fixed might end up on my table at Christmas-time. If not this year, then the next. |
Believe me.....If I didn't have so much fucking money already invested in games......I'd say fuck it......but I do.....so I can't.
got me over a barrel Mr. Gates:mad: |
I have a question to all 360 users...
Does the RROD problem happen to those who have the box in an AC-cooled room too? Also, what about this :- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjjinHmEoss |
how many times are you gonna wrap it up in towels?..lol
i could imagine buying one from a pawn shop, red rings included. |
Quote:
As far as the towel thing go's I don't know anybody that has tried it but I dont know how well it work work and it would only be a temp fix so I guess it would be up to the person. |
This video is a little more better http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avWs4-wD15w . It is the towel trick and it worked for me, 3 times. I learned this from Dan a writer for OXM. I bought one on launch day in 05, Never had a problem with it until last year when this first started surfacing. MS did do something about it in the new consoles, they've upgraded and replaced the chip that is causing this. They have also extended the warrenty to 3 years for everyone. Just call up 1-800-4my-xbox some peoples have taken really quick to get them back my buddy it took a week from when they got it.
Edit: As long as you have the xbox in a well ventilated area you should have no prob. |
When I enquired someone at gamestop about when 360's will be available(sold out, this was a month or two after launch). He told me, then he said if I got one its all about keeping it cool and not letting dust getting into it due to the vents being on the bottom so it isnt a good idea to keep it laid down.I want to get one really bad, but my parents don't have an expendable amount of money even towards christmas....I might just stay with PC.

well, i wish i had known that earlier. it was sitting on its side on my filthy rug.
|
Never put a console or computer on carpet. This makes the machine over heat much quicker, due to the fact it can't "breath". If you sit it on the carpet it's prone to heat trapment and even more dirt and dust from the carpet.

I am still thinking the AC-cooled room way. |
From what i've heard the goal is to give it breathing room & keep it cool so go for it.

Also, do not stand it on it's side! It will ruin your discs! I have returned multiple used games with the same scratch in the disc.
When the disc is stood up sideways in the machine, it is magnetically spinning. If the balance gets off just a little, it starts smacking the sides of the machine and will dig deep scratches into your games. The people at gamestop thought I was doing it to my games. |
