Brussels International Festival of Fantastic Film

Mid April and the BIFFF is upon us. I will try to catch one or two movies this edition (preferably over the weekend or at the 10th or 12th). Should I be able to do so, I will post my impressions here.

having said all this, I am always up for recommendations. So which films on the bill you like to see or recommend?

Thanks in advance.

Oh lucky you.

If you see Abrakadabra!. let us know what you think. I love the Onetti Brothers films, they love the giallo. ::love:: I saw their first two films Deep Sleep and Francesca, both marvelous!

Have fun!

Yeah, Abrakadabra looks pretty good and I do love myself a good giallo.

Sadly, midnight screenings between two work days are kind of a no no. ::sad::

Daddy's Girl was a fun watch. For a torture porn's standards, there did not seem to be that much gore, but a good watch nonetheless.

And the rowdy crowd added to the experience.

Yesterday, I got the chance to watch two movies. Both The Pool: and Cut Off (aka Abgeshnitten): were a fun watch and well recommended.

The festival in general has a fun vibe. The volunteers working at the festival all excel in friendliness and helpfulness. The crowd is noisy, but cheerful. Whenever a director comes on before a screening, he is cheerfully pushed into singing a song. Also: if you understand a bit of French and if you enjoy a bit of gallows humor, you're in for a few laughs. Example? Whenever a character calls out for someone or says are you there, people in the crowd do a mock yoo-hoo. Or how about this one: in The Pool, the main character's dead dog is hanging from a chain. He somehow uses the dog to pull himself up. When they face each other, a dude yells out in French: give it a kiss, dude!

So in short: if you are in Brussels around early to mid april, pop up and catch a bit of BIFFF. The current location (BOZAR) can also serve as an incentive. :)
