X-Files: how to start

#askingforafriend

A friend of mine wants to start watching X-Files. Thing is: she is a self professed scarety cat with a bit of history concerning things like PTSD. The details are a bit sketchy to me as well, so I won't go into them.

What episodes would you recommend as a way to get into the series?

Maybe an introduction with some of the more humor-forward standalone episodes? Ones that come to mind are Bad Blood, Humbug, Jose Chung's From Outer Space, How The Ghosts Stole Christmas, etc. There is some violence in some of those, so I'm not sure if it would square with any triggers for her, but the tone of those episodes definitely is lighter, and those are some of my favorite episodes in the series anyway.

The beginning? I can't remember the first episode but I don't think it was that scary.

loved watching x files on tv back in the day, the movies weren't as great as the series in my opinion,

I love this series, always start from the beginning. The way Mulder and Scully meet each other is wonderful, I love it.

Agreed. No point in watching the series if youre not going to start from the beginning. The xfiles was not a particularly scary or violent show, I mean compared to other series of this genre. We dont know what her PTSDs are about, so if she's interested in watching the show, Im sure she'll figure it out.

I WANT TO BELIEVE......just so you know....

Start from the beginning, as others have said. S1 e3: Squeese, is the only season one Ep that I recall as being slightly scary or potentially triggering for someone’s PTSD, but it does depend pr her personal experience so I can’t make any assumptions. Ep 3 might be fine, but Ep 11, about a failed space flight, might not, I can’t tell tbh
