Not really a concert but went to first play last night . ON GOLDEN POND at Winnipesaukee Playhouse in Meredith NH with author Ernest Thompson playing Norman. Good presentation and find as I've gotten older, I can appreciate the story more.
In small world parlance, Ernest is in one of our Yoga classes and had no idea he was the Oscar winning writer until another classmate told me.

Alice Cooper 8/11/19. Really good show with a new stage set and MANY deep cuts being played. Never thought I would hear "My Stars" live. Really ace band too, especially Ryan Roxie on GTR.

Opening was Motionless in White (Meh) and Halestorm. HS has really good players and Lizzy quite engaging,. b ut all the screaming wore thin.

Awwww. Meredith, NH is so lovely. Makes me think of driving up to North Conway with my ex.

Last concert for me was Jimmy Eat World & Third Eye Blind. ::big grin:: My teenage and 20-something selves were nerdily high fiving the whole time.

FryeDwight 08-25-2019 02:08 AM

The Lakes begin of NH (where Meredith is ) is indeed lovely::love::::love::

Blue Oyster Cult 8/24/19 Flying Monkey Plymouth NH

Wife is a huge BOC fan (12 times since 1978) and got Third row seats. Band played well and seemed to be looser than usual. Only beef I have is a LOT of the same songs played from last few shows (although "Dr Music" opened the show and a new one from upcoming album) and while Classic Rock bands have the songs that they HAVE to play, a group with such an extensive catalogue should have more options. But the nearly sold out crowd certainly enjoyed it.
Best part for us was meeting Richie Castellano (GTR/Keys/Vocals) outside the venue (going to dinner) and after the show along with hellacious long time drummer Jules Redino.

BJ Thomas-Laconia High School Auditorium, Laconia NH 9/13/19

LHS auditorium has had other performers from the last few years like Peter Noone (Herman's Hermits), Mary Wilson (Supremes) and Denny Laine (Moody Blues, Wings) and although it might have seemed a comedown, for Me, a gig is a gig. No admission and first come first seated.
Good show overall, but many of the same songs-and Stage patter- from last couple, b ut no slacking off and band great helped out by a horn section. Played the usual hits, but threw in an awesome "Knock on Wood" before Jackie Wilson's "Higher and Higher" closed the show.

FryeDwight 11-10-2019 12:35 AM

TUSK-Capitol Centre for the Arts, Concord NH 11/01/19. They are a Fleetwood Mac tribute band and do a solid job every time, pretty much selling out every venue when they come to the area.

FryeDwight 11-24-2019 02:50 AM

Gary Puckett and The Union Gap-Flying Monkey, Plymouth NH 11/22/19

Not really a fan, but wife loves the hits, so we got second row center again-don't know how she does it. Gary looks great-slim and energetic and other musicians very good. His voice very strong and besides the singles (opening with the 20th Century Fox fanfare into "Lady Willpower"), also played covers hat were on the 60's albums like "Kentucky Woman", "Lady Madonna" and "The Mighty Quinn".

Wife went to Manchester NH with a couple of friends to see Trans-Siberian Orchestra last night and she said it was awesome. A lot of activity from someone who had knee replacement surgery a few weeks ago.

FryeDwight 12-25-2019 03:43 AM

Wizards of Winter-12/19/19 Tuelo Ballroom Derry NH.

Second time seeing them. As mentioned, are very much in Trans-Siberian Orchestra realm, but with energy and ambience of their own. Good long show with solid performances, particularly by Trixter/Def Leppard gtr Steve Brown who was nonstop and enjoying himself immensely.

FryeDwight 01-05-2020 02:33 AM

Kashmir 1/4/20 Tupelo Derry NH.

Actually managed to get off work, so had tickets in the back as got them last minute, but different perspective of the show and they were as good as ever, although I wish they would trim a few numbers from the first two albums.

Still, solid playing throughout and a nice acoustic portion they played after intermission with "Tangerine" standing out.

FryeDwight 02-05-2020 03:05 AM

Cheap Trick-Capital Centre for The Arts, Concord NH 2/4/20

Like a lot of CT and great seeing them in a smaller venue (1300 seats). Solid last night with Robin Zander's voice still strong and vibrant . Rick Nielsen still wild as ever with solid playing, prowling the stage and throwing probably 100 picks out in the crowd. truly enjoyed "Big Eyes", "California Man", "Out in the Street" (theme from THAT 70'S SHOW), "Never Had a Lot to Lose", "Need You Love" and "Surrender".

The last live show I got to see was MORBID ANGEL, WATAIN ,and INCANTATION at el corazon in seattle. Had tickets for FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE in march and tickets for ROTTING CHRIST in april. They were of course both canceled because of this covid bull-shit! This has to end sometime.

Classic Stones Live-6/25/21 Flying Monkey Plymouth NH

First concert in almost a year and a half and most enjoyable evening. CSL are a Tribute band with "Mick" and "Keith" looking remarkably like the genuine article. Joined by six other players and certainly had the sound down , playing a little over two hours. Realized how long it's been when they took an intermission and I first thought that was the show::embarrassment::

Some people have busted my chops for seeing a Tribute band, especially if the "Real" article is out there. Can't see having to spend a fortune on tickets, traveling to Boston/spending the night and knowing they will not sound like they did. Plus many of the Tributes sound just fine

A Co-Worker got Eagles tickets for $700 each which I think is outrageous...At this point, there is a limit and $100 each is really it

Chevalier 06-29-2021 12:23 PM

My last concert was the IBMA pre-covid. One of the newer acts I liked was Maybe April.

Hall and Oates/Squeeze- 8/9/21. Bank of New Hampshire Pavillion Gilford NH

Saw H&O two weeks after getting married (2/85) and despite being more of a Headbanger (Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Scorpions etc), they put on a excellent show with Daryl Hall exuding more confidence than 20 singers.

Two years after a severe Electrical storm cancelled their performance, they were back and while a lot of hits were played, it was a short set, only about 14 songs with a LOT of patter by Darryl that seemed more about taking up time as well as bitching at his Guitar tech close to the mike. About five people from work/gym have the same outlook as I did, so at least I did not feel like I was nitpicking.

Despite all the minuses, They sounded really good-Ace Band they had- and John Oates really is a better singer/ guitar player than given credit for.

As far as Squeeze, only know a couple of tunes. Very good players, but almost too loud for the venue and also was disappointed KT Tunstall had to back out as was looking forward to seeing what She could do.

Alice Cooper/Ace Frehley 9/18/21 Bank of New Hampshire Pavillion Gilford NH

Good double bill that was pretty good, despite the aggravation of getting decent tickets and the all but extortionary fees that LiveNation tacks on. Crowd was cool, but could smell pungent cheap weed throughout, especially when the row in front of us was handing a joint off up and down the line.

I loved KISS back in the day (still enjoy those albums) and think Ace is a good guitar slinger with a unique vibrato style, but He really has not progressed as a player since the late 70's. Decent playing though with a good band, but only 8 songs played with only one new one (in a medley) and very heavy on KISS material. Oddly, He wrote many decent songs in his tenure, but bypassed a lot to play songs like "Strutter", "Detroit Rock City" and "Deuce". "Rocket Ride", "Cold Gin" and "Parasite" (especially) rocked great, but where was "Rip It Out", "Rock Soldiers" or "Strange Ways"?

I don't think Alice can play a bad show and good form last night, using the cool stage from the last tour. At first thought He was going to play the same show as last time, but three new songs from DETROIT STORIES and very nice hearing "He's Back (The Man behind The Mask)" -seeing Jason Voorhees as well. Solid set with his excellent band who all rocked out and seemed to be almost giddy to be playing again, especially Nita Strauss whose exuberance was contagious.

I don't pay any attention to Alice Cooper anymore since he has become a Christian.

Went to The Sandwich (NH) Fair on Sunday with the Wife. Nice day, Cool people and SO MUCH FOOD::shocked::! Had an enjoyable time and caught a couple of musical acts before leaving, with Stage Mentalist/Sword Swallower Roderick Russell-a big hit with the crowd- in between:

Marcy Drive Band- Basic Bar/Cover Band, but good playing by all and really sizzling by the finale of "Folsom Prison Blues"

Don Campbell-Popular performer in Northern New England (particularly Maine) has a good country-ish vibe, reminded Me a lot of Vince Gill. Had a good sized Swag table as well, lots of Garment wear and CD's.

Get The Led Out-Friday 10/22/21 Colonial Theater Laconia NH

The Colonial was old movie theater that had been closed for over 20 years, but lots of upgrading and has doing very well since re- opening this past summer. Hoping this will be helpful to Downtown Businesses.

GTLO are a Philadelphia Band who aim to play Led Zeppelin songs as on the album with all the overdubs and extras added. They succeeded admirably with "Ten Years Gone", "Hey Hey What Can I Do", "All My Love", "The Wanton Song" and the magnificent "Nobody's Fault But Mine"

Only real beef I have (other than playing LZ songs I'm sick of by now like "Stairway To Heaven", "What Is And What Should Never Be" and especially "Ramble On", but that's not the Band's fault) was various members leaving the stage and coming back on midway through the songs then leaving again, which I sort of found distracting.

The O'Brien Clan-Kathleen's Irish Pub-Bristol NH 3/17/22

Got together with some friends for dinner for St Patty's day. The group is a family (with a spouse or two) playing traditional Irish songs. Took a while to get going, but good time and an interesting take on "Whiskey in the Jar" and closing with "Danny Boy"

The Sixties Show-Flying Monkey, Plymouth Nh 3/31/23. Very good show with six musicians playing almost 30 songs with lots of visuals added, such as film, photos and four large collages with various photos from that tumultuous decade.

A tribute to Linda Ronstadt with good playing by all principles and peerless vocalizing by AMERICAN IDOL's Tristan McIntosh.

Better Than Ezra-Tupelo Ballroom Derry NH 8/17/23. Exceptional performance by the New Orleans based band. Mainman Kevin Griffin still has an awesome voice and after Ray Davies (The Kinks), one of the campiest, charismatic and confident frontmen I've ever seen.

Led Zeppelin 2-Flying Monkey, Plymouth NH 8/20/23. Led Zeppelin tribute band that were pretty damn good, playing some of the usual suspects, but some truly DEEP songs which sounded awesome. All solid musos, especially the drummer who was ultra ferocious on the skins and probably smacked the gong more in one night than Bonzo did in a week!

I don't know how She did it, but Mrs FD got Second Row Dead Center::cool::

Dirty Deeds:The AC/DC Experience-Capitol Centre For The Arts, Concord NH 1/12/24

Boston based Tribute band of "The Thunder From Down Under" was pretty good, although a little too loud for the venue. Played all the usual suspects but also some deep cuts like "Are You Ready", "Live Wire", "Jailbreak", "It's A Long Way To The Top" (which had a lady playing bagpipes) and "Sin City"

FryeDwight 02-11-2024 05:13 AM

Lotus Land-Tupelo Ballroom Derry NH 02/10/2024

A Rush Tribute band that really knocked the ball out of the park, with some extremely intricate being performed like "By-Tor And The Snow Dog", "Xanadu", "Analog Kid", La Villa Strangiato"and closing with "Working Man" that had snippets of Yes's "Roundabout" and "Cygnus X-1"
