Yep, good "remakes" are extremely few and far between. I might say the only good ones are really "re-imaging's" rather than remakes, so to speak -- like the 80's The Thing, The Fly and Evil Dead 2, also 1931 Jekyll/Hyde, the US version of The Ring.

I completely agree! The only remakes I can think of that I actually liked are Tom Savini's remake of Night of the Living Dead, the American remake of The Ring, and the remake of The Last House on the Left (which I actually felt was a lot better than the original).
