War of the Worlds (2005)

Well, you heard it. Steven Spielberg is planning on re-making War of the Worlds, with Tom Cruise as the leading character. The article can be found:

HERE

I've only read a shortened, kid-friendly, illustrated version of the book and listened to the radio play, but I liked them both.

This story could be very cool done with today's effects, especially with Spielberg directing. I do hope that it's set in the same time period as the book...

Yep it is being filmed right now in Ct. We'll see if they can do it justice.

right on

The original is playing on cable right now..,and it truly is a classic, I think Speilberg will do it justice But I"m not a Cruise fan. But I'll reserve judgement untill I see some footage from it.

this is a big fucking mistake.
I was asked a while ago what would be the best choice for a film to be remade and i said War of the Worlds because the previous version was an americanized piece of crap by George Pal that was basically a religious film. They used to play the godamn thing every Thanksgiving.

I always wanted to see it done properly .. turn of (the previous) century england.
But no .. once again it's hijacked and will become another Independance Day only with Tom fricking Cruise.

Speilberg is a fine director but this is a big mistake.

Maybe some day someone will do it properly.
Too bad Jackson didnt pick it up .. I bet he'd do it justice.

Im sure this will be a complete shit pile. But it'll look some cool if nothing else.

Independance Day was just a modern version of War of the Worlds . so whats the big difference here ?

what can i say ? i'm pissed.

I try to keep from bashing hollywood because all they do is pump out films to a formula that works : give the people what they want.

In general americans dont want to see movies about any other country - especially England because they cant deal with the accents. Well, that and they are self-obsessed.

So a true-to-the-book interpretation probably wouldnt fly.
Which is sad.
The one thing about the Horror members here is that they have a much more open mind and do not reflect the american movie going majority.

So the only thing i can hope for is some BBC miniseries ... which wont have a budget so although it will be well acted the effects will end up looking like amateur shit. and i'll still be unsatisfied.
