The Orange Bound Monster Books at all Libraries in 1980's

Crestwood House Publishing y'all:

In 1977, Elementary Schools across the U.S. obtained a boxed set of 6 Crestwood House softcover books on Dracula, Frankenstein, Godzilla, King Kong, Mad Scientists, and The Wolf Man. This kit was called the "Monster Reading Center" and had a Teacher's Guide with audio cassettes to accompany each book.

From there, more books were released by Crestwood Publishing often having an orange binding. Many kids from this time period will remember hunkering down at their local libary staring at the various pictures of monsters only imagining how horrific the actual movies were (the actual movies of course could never match the imagined horrors of encountering these pictures evoked).

Couple bloggers Around the net seem to have fond memories of the collection:

Below Picture is of the Monster Reading Center that marked the debut of Crestwood Publishing's Monster series with it's initial 6 in softcover with cassettes note in the image as well below each volume with the teacher's guide as well.

Every horror fan should have this as #1 collectable in my opinion. If can get the original display from 1977 with cassettes it would be the perfect compliment for any theater room. It really brings back memories of the 80's.

After initial softcover release in 1977, hardbound books were released each year with new volumes per year until 1987. Initial books had an orange binding while later books had a bluish purple binding.

Great series, when my school library discarded their inventory I got a few. Now my kids enjoy them. ::love::
