I was surprised how much I liked it. It was just plain cool. Surprised it was wasn't a bigger commercial hit, with a toy line and everything.

Good point! I used to love to point out to people that King Kong -- in the 1933, 2005, etc is about 24 feet (7m) tall. Whereas Godzilla, in the original 1954 film is (50m) 164 feet tall. Over the films, he would become taller, to 330 feet (100m) and in the 2019 film was 393 feet (120m), which is obviously about how tall King Kong is in this new film.
Although Kong was smaller in the 2017 Legendary film at 104 feet (32m)... the film specifies he's an adolescent and still growing. ::roll eyes::
