Movie vs Book

I used to read some horror when I was younger and especially liked to read the books that movies were based on. I haven't read horror in a number of years but am thinking of picking up the genre again. What I'm hoping to accomplish with this thread is a general discussion about which books you believed were better than the movie, worse than the movie, or just as good as the movie.

From what I remember, I really thought that The Exorcist was both a great book and a great movie. I haven't read it in a number of years but I remember the movie staying pretty true to the book, for the most part.

Recently i read A Clockwork Orange.

Now the movie is one of my favorite movie's ever. I enjoyed the book too (which i read after the movie) but couldnt decide which i liked better and that was because i realized that they were essentially different stories. They were the same story in what happened with some exceptions but ultimately the movie was a character study while the book was a morality tale.

I go with the books. If the movie is based on a book, 99.999% of the time the book will be superior. If the other way around, not quite such a sure thing. Joe Millard's novelization of THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY, was terrible, the film being one of my all time favorites.

Can't say I can agree with the pet sematary.

In my oppinion the mist is a perfect example where a flick was actually better then the novel, or in this case short story:

I'm a King fan but I have to agree with that one, Firestarter was pretty bad too.
