"Carrie" to be remade - AGAIN!

Thirty-five years after Stephen King’s first best-seller roared into theaters and scared a generation of prom-going teens, MGM and Screen Gems have hired playwright Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa to resurrect "Carrie" with a more faithful adaptation of King’s novel, according to Deadline.

But King, who famously disapproved of Stanley Kubrick’s adaptation of "The Shining", tells EW he still has a soft spot for Brian De Palma’s original film:

Quote:

“I’ve heard rumblings about a Carrie remake, as I have about The Stand and It. Who knows if it will happen? The real question is why, when the original was so good? I mean, not Casablanca, or anything, but a really good horror-suspense film, much better than the book. Piper Laurie really got her teeth into the bad-mom thing. Although Lindsay Lohan as Carrie White… hmmm. It would certainly be fun to cast. I guess I could get behind it if they turned the project over to one of the Davids: Lynch or Cronenberg.”
Aguirre-Sacasa, who recently rewrote the "Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark" script, is an accomplished comic-book author familiar with the King oeuvre; he adapted King’s epic "The Stand" into comic-book form in 2008.

I think it would be interesting to watch if done properly, but I'm with King on this one - the first was so very enjoyable, it's not like it needs to be improved or anything. I think the attention should be put on The Stand.

Agreed-money is better spent on The Stand-here's an idea why don't the studio that is committing this atrocity instead use the money to make a new Stephen Kind adaptation-Insomnia for example?

David Lynch for Carrie? Well said, Mr. King:D

And Cronenberg? I don't have a clue but he might have a little interest 10 to 15 yrs ago but not at the moment.

All I have to say is shoot me....
When will all these remakes end?
What the hell was wrong with the original Carrie?
I mean I'm all for sequels, but remakes of these works of art is pure insanity and a blatant slap in the face to young minds out there who actually have interesting ideas out there.... Just makes me mad >=[
sorry for the rant lol

This is a subject that I can never get excited about. I like Carrie... why does it need to be remade? I pretty much consider Hollywood cinema to be dead. Continuing to remake older movies and classics, making movie adaptations of things that should not have them, or my least favorite... Making American versions of foreign films like 3 months after they come out to dumb it down for us Americans or make it in english because that's the only language that matters apparently. Trust me I won't be watching this. I can't support complete unoriginality. To give you an idea, when I saw this video, I lost all hope for Hollywood ever redeeming themselves. Sorry for the rant, just really boils me when I see things like this. lol

All the remakes are a sore subject around here. Lots of people, including me, agree with you 100%.
