This song came up in my head yesterday, after about 20-30 years of not hearing it. I never knew it was Cliff Richard. (I didn't know who he was when I'd sing to this on the radio.)
Also, found out I heard some lyrics wrong
In the chorus I thought he sings, "I aint gettin sleep, But I aint gonna cheat!" Turns I the lyrics are, "I aint losing sleep, But I aint counting sheep!"
The song is rather sad, so naturally I thought he was expressing sadness, not defiance.
