Many of those shootout scenes in Dark Tower are pretty good. I do like that Western stuff. He would probably be really good in a modern or old school Western movie if he hasn't been in one yet. Something like Open Range or The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. There is an ending scene in Takers almost like the one in The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.

And I do like how clever he is in the Luther TV show when he's after all those crazy killers. The new Luther just started and I'm looking forward to watching that.

But I think he might be too old for Bond as he would probably only get in a few movies before he's in his 50s. And I'm sure they will restart the series again after Daniel Craig. I bet most actors today who want to play Bond, want to get a clean start without the baggage of the previous actor. That clean start combined with number of movies is probably what makes a good Bond in the eyes of the public. And also allows the actor to really form the character. Sean Connery and Roger Moore both made 7 Bond films and I think when people think of Bond, they think of those two actors. Idris Elba wouldn't get past four movies if he was lucky. And I don't think he would want to make only 1 or 2.
Surprisingly the actors who've played Bond were well into their 40s. I know, pretty bizzare right? You'd think they'd go with 30 years old, considering they should be functional Commandos in fighting.

Roger Moore was 46 for his first Bond film, and he did 7 films! Timothy Dalton was 40, Brosnan 42. Craig will play Bond in 2020 at age 52! In Connery's last film he was 53. So Idris at 46 is just one of the later starts, but it's what they've been doing.
