SE7EN (1995)>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>SPOILERS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> > Many years since I've tuned in and while some of the luster is gone with repeated viewings, I still find this incredibly creepy with one of the most downbeat wrap-ups ever. I also think Morgan Freeman is superb as the meticulous yet burnt out detective and while Brad Pitt gets top billing, I found his character incredibly obnoxious, although You feel such pity for him towards the end. Watching yesterday, it just seemed to Me that He was not the right kind of person to be a detective; too impetuous, too hotheaded, too hung-ho and took comments as slights, instead of trying to learn from them. You can appreciate his wanting to do the right thing, but more training would have been better. Also, the HUGE mistake He makes in underestimating John Doe; even when in custody, Doe still has the upper hand. Very much worth a watch. **** |

GACY:THE SERIAL KILLER NEXT DOOR (2024). While Mike Korich looks a lot like the infamous murderer, the script, for some reason has him laughing out loud at just about every comment He makes, reminding Me of Cesar Romero's Joker from the TV series BATMAN. GTSKND also plays fast and loose with the facts, which I find insulting to his many victims , especially it's a teenager who finds out his secret, but the parents tend to veer towards belief then disbelief and they are incredibly dense. A stupid wrap-up and just a general waste of time. *

WACKEN (2014). Interesting look at the huge Heavy Metal festival held in Germany is put together and seems very organized; especially after watching the disaster that was Woodstock 99. A lot of veteran bands are featured like Deep Purple, Alice Cooper, Saxon (with Doro Pesch) and Rammstein. Also some up and comers, competing in a "Best Band" contest from around the world, as well as interviews with fans. And while there is drinking and some mild carousing, things appear to be a lot more temperate.
While I liked most of it, there is way too much footage of attendees whooping, grimacing and flashing the "Horns". Also, the band that wins the "Best Band" contest has NO footage at all , although the competition does. I would have liked to have had a little backstory of how the festival came to be and the steps taken in it running smoothly. **1/2 |
