1964: The Tribute-Flying Monkey, Plymouth Nh 5/3/24
Its been almost ten years since I've seen them and just as good last night as before. It's Beatles music before the SGT PEPPER era and they have the moves, the look and the music down. Lots of classics and some good medleys like a Carl Perkins twofer ("Honey Don't/Everybody's Trying to Be My Baby"), four 12 string songs melding together and the encore four cover songs by Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Carl Perkins again. I've always liked The Beatles, but getting older, they just seem to matter more. I LOVE the classic rock (64-84 especially) and having SIRIUS XM in the car is nice. But SO MANY of the same songs being played has all but driven Me to distraction. I find myself more and more going to Channel 18 and while I can't listen to some of the later material anymore, it's astounding how prolific and how good so much of their material still is. |

Hootie And The Blowfish/Collective Soul/Edwin McCain-Bank Of NH Pavillion Gilford NH 6/13/24
Back -to-Back decent performances by all bands. Lots of hits from them with a few surprises, the biggest being CS and JM doing a cover of "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" by AC/DC ("Let's just see what happens"). Hootie was cover heavy, but sounded good on "For What It's Worth" (Buffalo Springfield) and "Hey Hey What Can I Do" (Led Zeppelin). I'm still astounded by how many people are moving back and forth to get booze (at those prices), many of them being repeats. AND while the show is going (At ticket prices these days).! |

Christopher Cross/Justin Hayward-Tupelo Music Hall, Derry NH 7/13/24
Both acts played about the same length and even if Chris had some Grammies and a couple of #1's, Justin has such longevity with The Moody Blues that He should have headlined. But good shows by both and ace bands backing them. Justin is still doing the acoustic show, but with a Flute player added, which helps prop up the songs so well. Chris played the big hits and still sounded good, even if He looks like Billy Corgan's older brother these days. |

Al Stewart and Empty Pockets-Flying Monkey, Plymouth NH 8/26/24
Decent show by the 70's troubadour (even if He looks like a bank president these days) and the Chicago quartet who played five songs before Al came on. Despite being in his late 70's and a tendency to chat, Al's voice still good especially on favorites like "Year Of The Cat" and "Time Passages" |
