Good grindhouse horror?
After my recent rewatches of The Last House on the Left (1972) and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) I've been wanting to watch more stuff that's in that vein.
Rough and gritty is what I'm looking for. Dingy fluorescent lighting, grainy 16mm film footage, close-ups, dark scenes, amateur camera work and of course, brutality. I'll also take recommendations of classic movies that combine all or most of that with the psychedelic, bright, gaudy colors of movies like Suspiria (1977) and House of 1000 Corpses. (I know House of 1000 Corpses isn't "classic horror" but it's got that grindhouse style that I'm looking for. Still, I want 70's/80's horror movies only.) |

Psychedelic-ish, in roughly the Suspiria realm, fairly polished stuff would be:
Deep Red (1975) Argento. The Beyond (1981) Lucio Fulci Zombi 2 (1979) Lucio Fulci Blood and Black Lace (1964) Mario Bava Black Sabbath (1963) Mario Bava Some are more beautiful and others less brutal. Rough/Grainy-ish: Dracula vs. Frankenstein (1971) |
