Night of the Living Dead: Origins 3D

Night of the Living Dead looks set to return to the big-screen, but this time in a 3D reboot that will utilise brand new CG technology.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Night of the Living Dead: Origins will update the story while at the same time detailing the characters' back stories.

First-timer Zebediah De Soto will co-write and direct the project, which he calls "an American-style anime", while Con Air helmer Simon West will produce.

De Soto previously helmed a short entitled War Dogs, and together with business partner Gu Malliarodaki, invented a real-time effects system - known as 'The Beast' - which allows filmmakers the ability to direct CG performances as if they are working with real-life actors.

According to THR, George A. Romero, the mastermind behind the original Dead features, will have no involvement.

Hmmmm a night/day/dawn/ land of the living dead with out romero? sounds meh. It does sound good though. Maybe romero is too old to make movies anymore. Judging by the last one. The direction in that movie seemed so tired. Or maybe it was the terrible talentless actors who starred in it. Or the boring story line.

Danielle Harris has scored the starring role in Zebediah de Soto's Night of the Living Dead: Origins 3D, a prequel of sorts to George A. Romero's classic zombie film that started it all.

"All you're good luck wishes worked! Guess who's gonna be Barbara?!," Harris tells fans on Twitter adding, "Michael, vamps, and now zombies!!"

On the story front, De Soto, who wrote the script with David R. Schwartz, wants to update the tale partially by bringing out the characters’ backstories and make what he called “an American-style anime.”

Harris is also starring in Stake Land and can be seen in both of Rob Zombie's Halloween films.

Danielle Harris has revealed that both Mos Def and Bill Moseley have joined the voice cast of Zeb de Soto's Night of the Living Dead: Origins 3D.

Moseley will be playing Johnny, the same role he took on in Tom Savini's 1990 remake of Night of the Living Dead.

Joseph Pilato, Mike Diskint and Helen Cooper also star.

On the story front, De Soto, who wrote the script with David R. Schwartz, wants to update the tale partially by bringing out the characters’ backstories and make what he called “an American-style anime.”

Simon West Productions, and the Graphic Film Company, in association with 2020 Entertainment and Indus Media and Entertainment, have set Bollywood actor R. Madhavan (his films include 3 IDIOTS, 13B, TANU WEDS MANU, amongst others) to star in Night Of The Living Dead: Origins 3D.

Quote:
It’s being directed by Zebediah De Soto and co-written by De Soto, Warren Davis II and David Reuben Schwartz.

The film will also star Candyman‘s Tony Todd, Tom Sizemore, Danielle Harris, Sarah Habel, Sydney Tamiia Poitier, Bill Mosley, and Joseph Pilato, a cast with plenty of B movie cred.

West, Jib Polhemus, Gus Malliarodakis and Matty Mangone-Miranda of the Graphic Film Company, Paresh Ghelani of 2020 Entertainment, and Naveen Chathappuram and Charles Leslie of Indus Media and Entertainment are producing.

Is it right to try and update Romero’s classic?

At least this one has a storyline different storyline than Romero’s 1968 B&W masterpiece. Here, a group of survivors fighting barricade themselves in an abandoned New York apartment building when the zombie plague breaks out.

It’s being shot in a CG setting using stereoscopic 3D, which, its makers suggest, becomes a hybrid of graphic novel and traditional animation.

Producer Simon West adds, “This movie represents a whole new way of visualizing the classic zombie genre. It has a fresh and exciting style that sets it apart from all other horror films seen up until now.”
