Right then guys (i've past 500 posts by the way - go preach!!).....
Sorry to dig this old thread up but last night I watched The Descent at the flix and it was bloody brilliant. So I took my fiance in with me (who doesn't like horror really - maybe she'll see some spooky stuff but thats about it). The film was an 18 certificate (dont know the US equivalent) so we were thinkin 'Bloody hell! This is the first 18 horror they've released at the movies in yonks.' We wondered why its an 18. I assumed it would have drug references in it or somethin. Anyway, 20 minutes into the film, we realised why...... Cant tell you much about it but we jumped out of our fuckin seats . Things leapin of of the darkness, blood and guts galore. Bloody brilliant. And it was constant throughout the film. No slow bits to let you calm down. At the end of the film my bloody heart was thumpin. We had to go an get a beer to calm down. So ok it is just another 'cave man' film but its the first one i've seen done well. And also its from the makers of Dog Soldiers which is class. You guys must check out this film. I think a lot of you will love it. Latas

Guns don't kill people, people kill people, and monkeys do too (if they have a gun) -Eddie Izzard. “I could catch a monkey. If I was starving I could. I’d make poison darts out of the poison of the deadly frogs. One milligram of that poison can kill a monkey. Or a man. Prick yourself and you’d be dead within a day. Or longer. Different frogs, different times.” - Gareth from The Office “Life is just a series of peaks and troughs. And you don’t know whether you’re in a trough until you’re climbing out, or on a peak until you’re coming down. And that’s it you know, you never know what’s round the corner. But it’s all good. ‘If you want the rainbow, you’ve gotta put up with the rain.’ Do you know which philosopher said that? Dolly Parton. And people say she’s just a big pair of tits.” - David Brent |

This is exactly the same thing that happened to me with Session 9. Everyone's so excited about it and give it a shining review and I'm thinking, "Sounds like this is going to be real good!"
Nope. The atmosphere from the first sighting of the cave dwellers until after the first attack was terrifying, to say the least. Haven't seen Dog Soldiers but Neil Marshall certainly handled that first attack very very well. Unfortunately...in spite of the non-stop action, the skillful direction of the attacks dwindled. In my opinion, there seemed to be too many cuts. Instead of being scary having to watch them fighting back, it becomes too chaotic for its own good. Messy editing. But, hey, it was a good scare. Better than most. And I didn't particularly look forward to go out walking in the woods that night. |

Afraid of the dark? Well, so am I. It's "healthy" to be afraid, but it's not reason enough to avoid going to the woods whenever you can. It's very peaceful. Just you, and the stillness of the night sky.
