The Tempest (2010)

While watching this modern Hollywood treatment of a Shakespearean tale, I was just thinking how fun it'd be if they started to make all the modern big budget 3D-Special effects mumbo-jumbo films with using the Elizabethan/Shakespearean language?...even the Superhero film like X-Men or teenage rom-crap Twilight films or how about Nolan's mind blending masterpiece Inception in Elizabethan/Shakespearean language?:D

What a load of pretentious crap.

This movie made absolutely no sense. It was just a bunch of strange random events that were supposed to be (from what I've read about the movie) shocking, hilarious and thought provoking. It was none of that. Why this was nominated for an Oscar i'll never know. I get that this movie was trying to make a point but i'm sick of movies that go over the top with its weirdness and debauchery just to try and invoke a reaction. I wish i could get my hour and a half back.

I actually liked Dogtooth though I agree it is a bit arty and plotless but the set pieces were well done. I actually thought it should have won the World Cinema award instead of The White Ribbon which I thought was pretentious crap lol

I haven't seen Dogtooth yet but yeah I've seen The White Ribbon which is without a doubt a brilliant film...one of the best from Michael Haneke.

World of the Dead: The Zombie Diaries 2 (2011)

The first Zombie Diaries was a pretty decent effort, I liked that. But this sequel first of all, was kinda annoying as a POV feature or first-person perspective. As it centers around a small squad of military soldiers so the "camera man" also happens to be a soldier but most of the time he does absolutely nothing but record the events watching dying his fellow comrades while he was just standing there with the camera. And more annoyingly no one notices that or tells him that he should have shooting something other than footage. Other than that it adds nothing that much new than the first film.

I just don't get whats to like about Dogtooth. It's barely a movie. The plot doesnt make any sense, there's no explanation for anything and no resolution. It's just strange.

I really enjoyed Dogtooth. There's no need for a plot; to me, its power lies in documenting some outrageous and fascinating little world. The viewer becomes like a zoo-goer, watching creatures in captivity and feeling sad, yet being transfixed with the way they interact with their censored world. It's definitely disturbing, and like Fearonsarms said, the set-pieces are great. I can certainly see why some might not dig it, it's slow-burning and off-putting, but I was definitely impressed with it.
