Overrated movies which you have seen

No idea if this topic has been done before, so I thought it would be a good idea for discussion.

So, which ones do you think are grossly overrated?

Hugely popular mainstream stuff and cult classics alike, which ones made your opinion go in the opposite direction of the movie-loving public in terms of liking it?

(looking at a few hands raising up and murmuring "2001"...)

Let's hear it.

I think Bride of Frankenstein is overrated - don't get me wrong its a fantastic film but serious critics always seem to have it in their top 5. I really don't see how its much better than Whale's original film.

The Exorcist - i never thought this was very good, even backi n the day. Too long drawn out and the actual exorcist scenes verge on being camp..

Jaws.

I keep saying I'm going to give it another try, but then I keep remembering how much I disliked it.

One of these days I swear I'll give that shark another day in court. Maybe.

That made me smile. That's EXACTLY how my boyfriend feels about it.

Agreed.

Did people go crazy over that movie? To me something has to be "overrated" if it's rated. :p If they did and I missed it, then I agree whole-heartedly.

...

Pan's Labyrinth. There I said it. It was gorgeous but disappointing.

Yeah, Pan's Labirynth was slightly shallow and the ending was unsatisfying.

I agree. Especially Crash. Over-hyped pandering load of --

...

That movie made me SO incredibly angry.

THANK YOU.

You're the only one on this board that agrees with me. One of the first arguments/discussions I ever got in around here was over my disappointment for this film. A few people tried to "EXPLAIN TO ME" what it MEANT and what the POINT was... To which I got irritated because I understood the underlying meaning, but thought it was pedestrian and thin. The movie either should have been a fractured fairy tale OR a period piece. Didn't work as both. The Devil's Backbone was amazing and should have earned the praise Pan's got.
