Arrow Perseverance: Part 2 - how we make backgrounds

Hello everyone,

We hope that you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year Eve! Today we would like to introduce you to the process of creating backgrounds and show you how from the concepts we make renders and next ready-made backgrounds, which we throw into the game.

In our earlier posts, we have mentioned the process of creating simple frames, characters, and even some animations, also we have mentioned a little bit about the backgrounds, but today we would like to introduce you more deeply to this subject.

We will show you two types of backgrounds that we do for our games. The first one - created from scratch and the second one - using a render.

Where should we start?

If something has to be created, it must be invented first. Therefore, inventing an idea and writing it down in detail is one of the most difficult processes. It`s not enough to just tell the graphic designer: please draw me a toilet. The idea must be supported by a lot of details, for example: In what period of time is this toilet supposed to be in? What colors and contrast intensity should be used? How about perspective and lighting? And much more.

Anyway, let us assume that the artist received some instructions. The process of creating such a background looks like this:

A little light improvement and background is ready:

This is a book example of how the background is created. Let us now take a look at our second example, where we use a render.

After the render and lightning process is done, our artist can apply some colors.

Done! This background can be a little bit more animated. Among other genres of games that we make (rpg, action, etc.) we also create visual novel games. In that specific genre, backgrounds play a very important role here.

To conclude, if you like dark stories, keep an eye on us and play the first part of our game!

You can currently add it to your Steam Wishlist.
