Der Golem
I've just seen the 1920 German silent film. But I've been told that there is an earlier version of this from 1918 but it is "considered lost". Is this true?

Paul Wegener and Henrik Galeen made three "Der Golem" films. 1915, 1917 and 1920. Lots of German films were destroyed when the Nazis came to power and German film stock was different from American film stock thus restricting the American market, very few American prints avalible. Some print might be lost waiting to be found.

Wow thank you for the info :) I've only seen the 1920 version so must have been thinking of the 1917 version and now there is an earlier version as well-lets keep our fingers crossed the earlier versions are found in someone's attic or wherever.

Fragments from the 1915 film were found a few years back and can be seen on youtube.
