Finished the first Jack Reacher book.
It was pretty good. Nice twisty story with plenty of surprises and cool action scenes.

Now I'm reading the first book in The Witcher series. The Last Wish.
It inspired the brilliant video game. If you like the game then read the book. Its great dark fantasy that's very well written. I thought it would be very dense but its a relatively easy to understand read. Great stuff!

THE PREDATOR-Anthony John. Feral cannibal munches and crunches through NYC. Loads of clichéd characters (hard boiled cop, sexy reporter, haunted priest etc), but plenty of grue and worth a look.

Just started Atlas Shrugged. About a fifth of the way in. It written beautifully, not horror of course. Unless you consider the gross overreach of the government terrifying (I do). Regardless, excellent character development, beautiful scene setting. The sheer size is a little daunting but I'm into it, so it will get finished.

It was great until about the last 100 pages. You'll see why. I liked The Fountainhead a lot more.

Finished "The Girl Next Door" the other day. I'd heard SO much about it, how horrible (as in scary, etc.) it was, and... it was ok. I like my grim books to be grim, and this one seemed to be a bit shy of going all the way with it. If you're going to throw a punch, don't pull the punch.

Started "The Haunting of Hill House" two days ago and just about finished. I love it. Words like magic. Just my cup of tea.

8/10

Basically there's a place called Area X that behaves strangely and the US government has sectioned off sending in expeditions to explore it and return back with what the find/experience. That is the basis of the series. It is not a thriller or very indepth use of government procedure. It is also not what I typically find in most fantastic/science/horror fiction series. Its probably what people who snub series like that as beneath them and 'literature.' This one I think would appeal to them. The Southern Reach(location, not the triology) is elusive to being defined. I do not want to say more than this because it will ruin a lot of the book to try to explain what happens. Indeed I now need to reread the first book to see if I can understand what is occurring in Area X. The wonder at what is happening is marvelous.
