While it's not horror, I just watched I Am Number 4 for the first time.

Now I see why it took me so long to watch it lol

The Thing (2011)
7/10

Prequel to the 1982 film of the same name. Researchers find a very old spaceship and it's frozen occupant.

I think the reviews at the time of it's release were a bit harsh, but certainly not incorrect. That is to say, it's not as good as the 1982 film, and it's much too light in exploring and featuring paranoia. Just when character paranoia heats up, the film is interrupted by more inconsequential action of the CGI, violence and explosive variety. The film is fairly action orientated, but not particularly good at it. It also misses the chance to explore the essence of the new lifeform, and the dire consequences of it's existence.

Red State - It was alright. Not super scary, but a fun watch. Better than Tusk, even though Michael Parks gave a good performance in both. John Goodman was pretty good as well. I liked the way he portrayed the struggle of his character. On the other part, that whiny kid from the Elm Street-remake was kind of annoying.

American Psycho - One of my favourite Christian Bale-performances. I first saw this film at a festival with a noisy crowd (he bit when he drops the chainsaw: and the crowd goes wild! ) and it's still as solid as ever.

Jigsaw - 6.5/10 - IMO one of the better sequels.

John Wick Chapter 2 - 7.5/10 - It was nice seeing the character return although some of the things in the movie were a bit far fetched like the vast network of hitmen/whatever else they were. You mean to tell me all those people on the streets at the end staring him down are all connected? For what it was though I enjoyed it and I hope John Leguiamo an get his car fixed for part 3. I love that car!

Mother! - 4/10

With the exception of Noah, I love all of Aronofsky's movies, and despite getting the metaphor behind this one, I just couldn't get into it. The diretion and acting were all great but the story just didn't interest me. I also feel like that final shot was a big fuck you to the viewer as well as all of Aronofsky's movies, aside from Noah again, follow characters with inner struggles and while her struggles were represented, they weren't properly portrayed. I won't post spoilers but those who have seen it know what I men.

Happy Death Day - 6/10

It was better than I thought it would be (spoiler ahead) although I was a bit disappointed that the reasoning behind her reliving every day was never actually revealed which was a bit annoying but it was still a decent watch.
