You might try some of the classic Hammer films, as well:

Curse of the Werewolf
Horror of Dracula
Revenge of Frankenstein

There's a lot more, but this is a good starting point.

I recommend a Stephen King night. Most of his movies are as great as The Shining and Misery but Carrie, Rose Red, The Dark Half, The Silver Bullet, and much more can easily be found. Stephen King's The IT is getting remade, I definitely recommend you watch the original.

Some of my favorites:

It! The Terror From Beyond Space (the original "Alien")
The Monster of Piedras Blancas
Rawhead Rex
Man VS.
Pumpkinhead
Bonehill Road
The Thing (1951; forget the remakes; they sucked)

Good stuff. Every see Planet of the Vampires? Conceptionally another precursor to Alien and The Thing 82.

I really like The Thing From Another World, excellent film. The Thing 82 isn't really a remake of Another World. Rather it's really a close film version of the great short story Who Goes There? The two films share the same setting, but are very different otherwise. The Thing is the horror of distrust, paranoia and having your mind blown. Another World stays pretty close to a 'kill the monster' film. Would have been interesting if Another World explored the story line of what the scientist was doing with the new life form, but it was really a brief disassociated side story to the threat of the carrot monster.
