Thumbs up New Horror Trailer

Dear Reader,
My name is Paul Abbott, I am currently working on a horror film.
I am having a strangely difficult time getting any feedback.
My video is just a trailer and not the finished film. Regardless if you
do indeed like it, or otherwise could I get your two cents worth?
The video in question is 6 minutes long, and I did the sound, editing,
directing, SFX, wrote it, and I'm one of the characters. Pretty much I
had a hand in most all parts of it. Anyway any feedback would be greatly
appreciated. It is called Cantonese Ghost Story. Thank you greatly
for your time. Feel free to pass it along if you feel its worth while.

Best,

Paul Abbott

Your strong point is the visuals. The way you shot everything, the framing, special effects, the masking, color pallette, editing- even the acting, are all spot on. Some really smart choices. Several notches above most of the stuff that's posted here.

A few things that I felt weren't so strong: The font is hard to read, and several times the captions went by so fast I couldn't read them. You misspelled a word: there/their. Several times you used odd wording, such as "In ancient times it was a custom to believe..." instead of the more direct "It was an ancient belief..." I suggest you work with a writer to refine the text.

Also, if this is to be a real trailer, at the very end, the guy with the gun... I think it gives away too much.

All in all, this is really excellent, and I hope you're able to make this film.

I think it was very unsettling, and agree that the visuals are great. I particularly liked the overlay with the eyes flashing, and the way you used a bulge effect in places. Reminded me at times of Hausu.

Also going to second that font choice. It either has to be larger, or a more basic font. Perhaps there could be less flickering in the background while the text is up to help with readability.

Maybe a bit long for a trailer, but it works well as a short.

And of course, if anything comes of this, make sure you find some music and sound effects that aren't copyrighted.

Good job.

Loved the scratchy, grainy visuals which are reminiscent of 70s grindhouse cinema. The visual interjections which twist between real and distorted images, as well as lifelike and negative-film like, add a lot of atmosphere and spookiness to the proceedings. Wonderful choice of background music as well, which adds a lot to the foreboding atmosphere.

Overall, excellent work. Keep going!

I'm not as prolific with words as my counterparts here, but, I loved your short.
