Which track will they veer off to now, I wonder...

I'd be down with another entry in the series. I thought VII was too abrupt an ending to such a long series, and left some questions unanswered. I'd like to see some of the dots connected with Dr. Gordon's involvement.
I agree, it's probably all about money, but for this type of series that, unlike most franchises, is all about clues, twists and how it all fits together, I think there's still more story to be told. It's not like resurrecting Michael, Jason or Freddy for another tired, sub-par sequel that pales in comparison to the original. All of the entries in the Saw series are fairly equal in quality, which some would say is not that high. Others (like me) would say, better than average, and good entertainment. |

Seen one Saw movie- Saw 2- and it was so bad I had no desire to see any others. And Tobin Bell was awful...

2 is as good as it gets, don't bother with the rest.

neverending, if you didn't like 2, there's still a chance you might like the first one. It's the only one that works well as a standalone film, and is actually pretty different than the rest, being primarily a psychological thriller without all the gimmicky torture traps. And Tobin Bell, basically is not in it. The acting isn't great though, but I would consider it a fairly compelling film in its own right. It's the only one directed by James Wan, who's turned out to be a worthy contributor to the genre. If for no other reason, see it as a horror aficionado completist!
But yeah, if you hated 2, you'll hate all that come after the first one. What hooked me is the interweaving, soap opera-like mystery aspect of it, but I'd be fooling myself if I considered them all great films. It's not for everyone. (Edit) Of course, half the fun of each film is the twist at the end, and if you've already seen 2, it may have spoiled the ending of 1. Still worth a watch though. I hated the first Saw movie, and didn't really consider it to be a horror movie when it was released. But I did watch all the following movies. They would have had a good story if they had told it all in one or two movies, especially as the explanations given for how the story could continue got weaker and weaker with every new release. And even though the gore in some of them is good, there are far better movies to watch if that's what you're into.
So in short, I kind of enjoyed them (except for the first and the last), but I do find the franchise very overrated, and as bad as the last one was, I really don't care to see another one. Come up with something new... |
