And Soon the Darkness (1970)
Jane (Pamela Franklin) and Cathy (Michele Dotrice) are British nurses on a cycling holiday in rural France. They had a disagreement and Jane splits, while Cathy stays behind. When Jane returns a few minutes later to the spot where she left her friend, she discovers that Cathy has been mysteriously vanished. As if that weren't distressing enough, she learns from the local people that the site where her friend disappeared from is the same place where a lady tourist was found murdered a few years before! A very well crafted atmospheric British suspense thriller. Excellent camera works & nice background scores made it thoroughly captivating. As Jane doesn't speak/understand French well & there was no subtitles, so we can feel a sense of her confusion and mounting fear while the local people were talking suspiciously. It worked pretty well to develop the tension. Moreover, saw it on a B/W format...which added a cult tone overall. (An American remake is going to release this year & having Amber Heard on the lead.) >>: A- Eyes of Laura Mars (1978) An American Giallo! Story & screenplay by John Carpenter!! A terrific cast that includes Tommy Lee Jones, Faye Dunaway & Brad Dourif!!! But why I haven't heard of it before!??! how come? >>: B+ Beyond Remedy (2009) A poor, low budget German Horror. >>: D
