Can you tell which movie this is from??

We have been looking for this movie forever and we can't seem to figure it out. My mom saw it when she was little on TV so it may not even be around anymore. This is the scene she describes is this:

There are people driving in a car headed toward the mountains. It's dark and foggy. All of the sudden a giant eye with 6 or 8 legs comes out of the fog and attacks the people shooting lasers/light at them.

She remembers the eye being very tall. Also she thinks she may have seen this in the 60's. It's not The Crawling Eye although thats what we originally thought. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
