Best country for Euro horror

Seems like the foreign horror section is weighted a bit heavily towards the Asian side, so here's a thread for non-Asian foreign horror.

I vote Germany, with Italy being second

Italy gave us giallo and zombies.

with the success of the day/nightwatch films russia could be a new contender...

Germany doesn't > Italy because of quantity. It's better because of quality. There's few Italian horror movies I can think of that would match up to what the German filmmakers were putting out in the silent era (yes, I know, The Experiment is fairly recent, but it's still damn good)

its extremely hard to measure films that diverse anyway ..

experimantal silent black and white vs modern italian film.

both extremely influencial and important in their own ways but really - apples and oranges ..

and although perhaps the experimental german films still have an influence felt today - not many people know they exist let alone have seen them.

I havent seen most of them .. anywhere ...
