What scares you most in any horror based media?

For my media course I need to ask people questions on the horror genre, so it'd be fab if people would reply to this thread.

For example, if people could like talk about any horror based thing they've recently seen and say what was the main feature that made it successful in scaring you or what made it unsuccessful.

for me its the threat of confruntation, i love a slow burning film, a typical good guy, who is hounded, persecuted and pushed by a bad guy till a grand finale where the two come together and just 1 walks away, its the thrill of the chase.

Disturbing images: Show me somethin' that's gonna mess up my mind.
Threats to family and loved ones: Make me feel unsafe in my own home.
Creative violence: New ways of pain and suffering.
Generational differences: Scary old people.
Dystopian futures: Societal breakdown and the aftermath.
Reanimation of the dead: Zombies, Dead loved ones coming back to life.
Parallel universes of evil: The Cthulhu Mythos for example.
My imagination: The scariest thing of all!

- Demon possession - probably because I believe in it. Although most demon possession movies aren't very scary.

- Home invasion - because I can't imagine the horror of something happening to my loved ones.

- Aliens taking over people (body snatchers) - The thought of people not being themselves any more is a freaky.

- Redneck/survival - being stuck out in the boondocks, dealing with local freaks that think of you as someone deserving torture, rape, murder, etc.

Asian horror. Pop-ups, distorted body movements, disfigurement and really creepy sound effects. The sounds that herald the ghost or the sounds the ghost itself makes.

You should really see me and Yoko Ono dance. We do all that.

I like horror/sci-fi/fantasy where there's character development, including characters changing through their experiences in the film; we know enough of the characters to become emotionally attached mostly because their good people; where 90% of the characters do what is logical to a reasonable person; everything in the film is consistent within itself including the laws of physics (except for possible specific supernatural elements) & the character up to that point; depthful interesting concepts; and the good guys win and evil loses, although there is room for original wiggle-room; original concepts a plus.

Oh, "horror based media", you talking about the news media?

I don't get scared easily but what creeps me out is demonic possession, it's the voices that get to me (like in the exorcist).
