Open Water is a VERY GOOD movie, and being filmed on digital camera's worked very well for it... nothing was lost by digital camera's being used, I actually think it added an aspect of reality to the movie.

I think if the movies characters and\or storyline is strong enough than the movie could be filmed on a cheap-ass 1980's video camera and still keep an audiences attention for the duration.

sometimes shitty VQ helps. It's not necessarily realism, but there's something it adds. As long as you can more or less see what's going on, nothing else matter
