LOL, I AM old! I remember having a crush on David Selby. And, I damn near fainted when I found Night of Dark Shadows and House of Dark Shadows on DVD! Saw them at the Saturday matinee when they came out.

Never saw the series but hated the movie.
Looked kind of promising...but in the end, to me it just took turns between bland and overly stupid. I actually found it a complete drag to watch.
...I mean look, I did love the "Reveal yourself, tiny songstress!" bit, but that's what, less than a minute of the film...not good, not good at all, Dave.

Regarding DARK SHADOWS (2012)...

My favorite part of the film was the opening sequence of the train traversing through the forest to the tune Knights in White Satin by the Moody Blues on the big screen. That was pleasant enough to justify the price of admission, cause I was also with two good friends, one of which was a big fan. The rest of the film was interesting. Since I wasn't familiar with the Dark Shadows TV series, which was before my time, I didn't have to face the let down.

A WOMAN SCORNED : THE BETTY BRODERICK STORY 1992

The true story of a socialite who murders her husband and his new wife after a particularly acrimonious divorce.

Fascinating.

BLACK SIDE MOUNTAIN 2014

An archeological dig in the far North reveals a large square- shaped object. After that point, the team start experiencing illness and odd dreams.

Very slow. Had some good moments. Loved that it was filmed in the dead of winter.

The Alphabet Killer was a pretty run of the mill serial killer flick. Eliza Dushku stars a cop that goes crazy, investigating the case of The Alphabet Killer (Apparently based on a real life case). Then there's Cary Elwes as her fiancé/superior officer and Tom Noonan, now as a cop (which is funny because he once played a child killer on the X-Files).

The plot follows a lot of the beats of the genre: the obsessive cop going off the rails, you're off the case!, third act plot twist, fighting with the colleague and then turning him around,... Would make for a good double feature with Kiss The Girls.

I generally like these. Like Kiss The Girls, Se7en, Along Came the Spider. Seems like as long as they stay realistic, without being tedious about it.
