It really is a terrific and twisted flick.

DRACULA (Spanish Version)-1931. A Mexican crew made their version of the Tod Browning film after the day cast left using the same sets and script. While it's still flabby, this has a lot more oomph than the Bela film with the sets being used more wisely (The Carfax Abbey set barely used in the BL film is magnificent), many loose ends put together and quite a lot more violence.
The acting is still pretty hammy-Renfield and Martin really overdo it-amazing how lax the security at the Sanitarium is- and Harker is even more of a doily here than David Manners ever was.
A big improvement with Lupita Tovar playing Mina...more vivacious than Helen Chandler and quite lovely too-no wonder Drac enjoyed nibbling on her!
As the title character, Carlos Villarias gives the old college try, but he can't touch Bela's turn and I know I'm being petty, but whenever CV meets people in the film, all I can think of what a big Shit Eating grin He has! ***

The Seventh Seal

Hadn't seen this for a long and I'd forgotten how good it is. Whats not to like, a knight returning from the crusades plays a game of chess with Death whilst seeking answers about life, death and god.

You have great taste, Hammer! I couldn't tell you the first horror movie I ever watched, but this is definitely one of them. It has stayed a favorite of mine since the first viewing. And I love John Agar, Mara Corday and Nestor Paiva, so how could I not adore Tarantula?! I Always love the quick Clint Eastwood appearance too!

He most certainly was, and this is possibly his finest performance. What a terrific movie.
