I need help with a movie!

Hi Horror lovers!

So I was enjoying a conversation about horror movies and scary scenes with my mom and she was talking about how she watched a scene from a movie when she was a child, that could've been the scariest thing she's ever experienced. The problem is she can't quite remember the title of the movie but only that one horrific scene that she can't erase from her head. These are the hints she gave me, that I already did try to research for myself, but couldn't find anything, so I wanted to try you guys if you can:

1. A very old horror film that might've been European or American.
2. The main character plays an actor who is some Shakespearean actor. (in the movie)
3. The scene includes an escalator with a ball bouncing off the steps,and the scare is a little girl in white showing up.
4. The movies ends with the main character in a car crash with his head being decapitated. The girl in white then shows up and holds his head like a ball.

Any horror detectives? :)
