XBox blamed for death of infant?

Slightly old news...

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - A family from the Midwest state in North Central US has reportedly filed a lawsuit alleging that Microsoft's Xbox video game sold by Wal-Mart store got overheated, and sparked fire causing the death of an infant.

Reportedly, the wiring connecting the Xbox 360 to an electrical socket became extremely hot, leading finally to a catastrophic fire in the house.

The lawsuit filed by the family alleges that the fire was a direct and proximate result of overheating of the game's power supply and wiring involves. Further, it claims that the fatal fire occurred in December 2004.

As a legal eagle might point out, while the suit alleges that the fire was started by an Xbox 360, way back in December 2004, when the fire is supposed to have happened, Xbox 360 was non-existent. Microsoft launched the Xbox 360 only in May of the year 2005.

The conclusion that could follow from this is that the family might be referring to a first-generation Xbox console, and not the Xbox 360. This can be a possibility as Microsoft actually recalled over 14 million Xbox power cords in February 2005, citing probability of catching fire as reason.

Sympathising with the family, a spokesperson for Microsoft, said that the company only recently learnt about the tragic incident that occurred way back in December 2004. He maintained however that Microsoft knows of no evidence of the Xbox that allegedly caused the fire. And, he pointed out that while the suit states an Xbox 360 was involved, this version of the Xbox was unavailable for purchase at the time.

The family behind the lawsuit is reportedly now asking for damages in excess of $50,000.

Sounds like the writer needs a little knowledge himself, they didn't release the 360 untill Nov. 22, 2005, Not May. Yeah I do recall the power cord recall, it was massive so that all of their customers would know, hey this isn't safe lets get our free cord. People in this country are always looking for a way to get rich quick, it is a tragedy that they lost their infant, that is probley one of the baddest things that could happen.
