Charles Starkweather and Caril Fugate

America's first notorious spree killers, Charles Starkweather and Caril Fugate's 5 state murder tour ultimately claimed 11 lives. Their tale has been fictionalized in numerous movies, most notably Badlands and Natural Born Killers. It is the 50th anniversary of their odyssey, this year. Charles was executed in 1959, but Caril served her term, was released in 1976 and ended up writing a book. Anyone here have any recollections of the incident?

No idea. I was born in 76 so my exposure was limited at best :)

Are these the guys Capote wrote "In cold blood" about?

No, that was Hickock and Smith, another good subject for discussion. If you've seen NBK, it's a fairly glossy, over the top version of the story. Badlands is much closer to the truth, although the names were changed(most likely to avoid litigation from Fugate).
