is Empire of Satanis "Lovecraftian" ???

the Dunwich Herald reviewed my rpg Empire of Satanis. it was fairly positive although for some reason they took issue with its Lovecraftian influence...?

so i humbly open it up to you guys... besides using the actual names like Cthulhu, Yog Sothoth, the Necronomicon, etc... what makes something Lovecraftian?

It seems even minor references to anything from lovecraft will make things "Lovecraftian"

Jerusalem's lot is in a compilation of Mythos stories, even though the only lovecraft reference in the whole story is to the Book of Worms, 1 reference.


The overall feel seems to be all that is required in many cases, but I think what they were getting at was that there were no overt lovecraft references (at least, none mentioned int he review), and that since it was set in another world, it was hard to relate to Lovecraft, as most of his horror storiesd take place right on good ol earth. The dream stories are a different matter entirely.

I would definately take the compliments over everything else they said. Saying you explain roleplaying well and that the rules are intelligent and easy is a BIG bonus. tehre have been plenty of major RPGs that were confusing as hell (see 1rst edition Dungeons and Dragons. Try to become a bard or a psionicist. It wil make your brain melt)


And congrats on the success. iahev been trying to make a role playing system for years, but every person i have had to help me eventually turned out to be worthless.
