Aliens versus Marines AGAIN!

April 11, 2008

Neal Moritz, the producer who brought you The Fast and the Furious franchise, will oversee Battle: Los Angeles, an upcoming sci-fi flick that pits a group of Marines against alien invaders.

Columbia Pictures has picked up the script by Chris Bertolini for Moritz to produce via his Original Films banner.

The story reportedly tracks a Marine platoon as they fight against an alien invasion on the streets of L.A.

"I love the idea, and I love the script. I like it all," Moritz said. "We are going to be in production within six months. What's attractive to me is that it's a huge event movie that can be done at a modest scale."

Bertolini's only other screenwriter credit is 1999's The General's Daughter starring John Travolta.

If Battle: Los Angeles is a success, we could easily see the studio duplicating the formula on a series of sequels set in other cities.

Could be decent for mindless action...I'll reserve judgment until we get a look at the aliens.

Dark Knight star Aaron Eckhart is set to topline his first big action movie - the sci-fi flick Battle: Los Angeles - according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The actor is set to play the leader of a marine platoon, who battles an alien invasion on the streets of the LA.

Jonathan Liebesman (Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning) is set to direct for Columbia Pictures, whilst Neal Moritz - who bought us The Fast and the Furious - will produce.

Talking about the film earlier this year, Moritz told THR: "I love the idea, and I love the script. I like it all... What's attractive to me is that it's a huge event movie that can be done at a modest scale."

Jonathan Liebesman is helming the sci-fier from a script by Chris Bertolini. Production begins in the fall.

Neal Moritz is producing through his Original Films banner.
