Does Playing As The Monster Remove The Horror Aspect?

I just saw this article: https://gamerproblems.net/11-video-g...s-the-monster/

And I was wondering like doesn't playing as the monster basically reduce the fear factor. Like what is there to be scared of? Your victims lol

I don't see anything wrong with it if it is being used in a mini game or as a bonus feature. Like for example I believe that in Forbidden Siren 2 there was a bonus stage you could unlock where you played as two zombified soldiers and you had to escort a zombified woman to safety, and in Resident Evil: Revelations there was a purchasable DLC where you could play as a mutated female character. Stuff like that should be OK imo.

Edit: Granted that in both of these examples you were still fighting monsters and not killing victims.

In the new Friday the 13th game, the single player mode has you play as Jason. I wish it was the opposite. I would think more fans of Friday the 13th would want to play as a counselor fooling around the camp and then attempting to escape.

Yeah that does seem pretty lame. That is one of the many reasons why I hate video games that seem force gamers to play online.

I mean I wouldn't mind playing as Jason in addition to the counselors, but having to play ONLY as Jason in single player mode is stupid. Especially for a guy like me who doesn't even like playing games online.

Edit: I mean in a true survival horror game you're supposed to survive! How the hell can you be surviving when your main character is an undead serial killer who never dies?

I just saw a work in progress on the Jason X stage in Friday the 13th. Too bad they can't finish and release it. They still had the player walking around as Jason.
