If all goes well, Australia's Serenity Cove Studios will be unleashing Marvel Comics' classic muck monster "Man-Thing" on horror audiences in 2004.

First appearing in 1971, the comic book antihero began life as a scientist who dies in the Florida Everglades, and - with help from swamp goo and a secret "super soldier" serum - is reborn as an oozing, emotion-driven crime-fighting mass.

Shooting on the film began last week under the direction of Brett Leonard ("The Lawnmower Man", "Virtuosity") working off a script from comic book veteran Steve Gerber ("Howard the Duck", "Sludge") and Hans Rodionoff ("Clive Barker's Saint Sinner"). "Man-Thing" is Serenity Cove's first major international production, and will be the first movie shot on its brand new nearly-built sound stages.

Originally, "Man-Thing" was slated as a straight to video release, but all indications so far suggest that the movie will be shown in the theaters as well.

Is this 'Man-Thing' comic character that your talking about the Marvel Comic villian that didn't have as much 'issue play' that it rightfully deserved. Well, if it is that Man-Thing, than at least it's getting the 'screen play' it deserves.
