Has Bruce finally topped Ash? It's doubtful, but Campbell's comically crotchety Elvis along with Ossie Davis's John F. Kennedy are garnering rave reviews and huge crowds wherever "Bubba Ho-Tep" screens.

"Bubba Ho-Tep", based on a short story by Joe R. Lansdale, shows us what really happened to Elvis Presley. The King switched places with a lookalike and missed his chance to switch back. The fake Elvis ends up overdosing in Memphis, while the real Elvis ends up in Texas rest home. He befriends a black man who's convinced that he's John F. Kennedy ("they" dyed his skin, removed part of his brain, and hid him in Texas). Together, Elvis and JFK take on an evil Egyptian monster who's feeding on the residents of their nursing home.

The movie has been chosen as Best Screenplay of the US Comedy Arts Festival, and has been made an Official Selection at both the Hong Kong and Toronto International Film Festivals.

In the September 17 Seattle Times, Campbell talks about being a cult icon ("Because as I walk down the street I'll go by 5,000 people without a second look, and then the one kid will wet himself. But that's it. So you can't get too crazy about it."), being Elvis ("...I just didn't have the moves"), and his future plans.

What does an actor do after being The King? Campbell's next project is "The Woods", an indie horror movie directed by Lucky McGee ("May"). He's also finished his second book, titled "How to Make Love the Bruce Campbell Way."

"I'm dead serious. Although I must admit it is fiction," he says.
