While his action thriller "Collateral" is in pre-production, screenwriter Stuart Beattie is busy with (among other projects) bringing his screenplay for the horror chiller "Scarecrow" onto the big screen. Independent film house Senator Films has agreed to make the film, with horror guru Sam Raimi (Evil Dead) producing.

In "Scarecrow", a laid-off man on the edge of sanity moves his family to a country farm in a last-ditch attempt to get their lives back in order. The farm has a history involving human sacrifice. The well-meaning husband succumbs to the farm's darkness.

The premise of "Scarecrow" is eerily similar to "The Shining", Beattie admits, though there are distinct differences. "'The Shining' kind of started off with a guy who had a history of abuse with his family and was a little bit out there to begin with, which I always thought was a bit of a cheat. So we're really taking on that whole journey rather than starting half-way through."

As of now, no director has been chosen for the project. Beattie is in meetings with Raimi to discuss the story and the shooting, which will probably take place in New Zealand.
