The Latest Scoop on "Riddick"

Cinescape has posted a full page of spoilers and info on the upcoming "The Chronicles of Riddick", the follow-up to the popular horror/sci-fi film "Pitch Black". Vin Diesel is back as Richard B. Riddick, a hunted man in the midst of two warring factions. Judi Dench, Colm Feore, and Thandie Newton also star. "Pitch Black" director David Twohy has the reins once again.

Twohy, who wrote both the original movie script and "Riddick", pitched "Riddick" to Universal as a "the evil twin of 'Star Wars'." Vin Diesel agrees that the new movie will be more of an epic than the first. "We're going to create this huge universe," Diesel adds. "And I'm excited about exploring this character's purpose in this universe and what his whole deal is."

But horror fans may be disappointed. Though "Riddick" will retain the darkness of its predecessor, it's lighter on horror and heavier on action. "The reason why it's CHRONICLES and not PITCH BLACK 2 is because that would give a false impression of this next film, because not only are we changing genres - the first one was a horror film and this one will be action/adventure/sci-fi - but we're also increasing the scope in such a way that isn't true to the original film," the director explained.

Horror? Sci-fi? Action? Moviegoers can decide for themselves when "The Chronicles of Riddick" hits theatres next summer.
