As I was only 11 when I first watched this movie, I used to think that if I had to work in a mental institute and come across someone like Patrick, I'd surely crap myself.

This does look really good, I've never heard of it before.

Evil Dead 2- 1987. Still one of my faves. ::love::::love::::love::

Solid 8/10. Going to check out the remake at some point, though I usually find remakes rather contrived and the originals innocent and great fun!

(well, except for that rather uncomfortable scene with the father and daughter)

Disconser 03-07-2016 09:35 AM

Predator

Truly a classic. 9.5/10.

FryeDwight 03-08-2016 07:00 AM

WHO SLEW AUNTIE ROO (1971). Very odd "Hansel and Gretel" story that is livened by some serious emoting by Shelly Winters. **1/2

Chevalier 03-09-2016 02:42 PM

The World Beyond (1978) I found it online.

SerialKiller 03-09-2016 02:49 PM

Suspiria- 1977. 8/10. Loved.

It really was. I remember being very pleasantly surprised. Had plenty of real sci-fi intrigue with the action.

The Serpent and the Rainbow (1988)
6.5/10

Never a dull moment, nice cinematography, with some very effectively shot scenes. Zakes Mokae crawls under your skin as a convincing statist voodoo villain. Although Bill Pulman shows more range than in any other roll I've seen him depict, his lead characterization is still much too smugly skating on the surface. I think a deep crevice of emotion was required, and Pulman a poor casting choice. While all the characters were rather shallow and failing to inspire much empathy, the story narrative was fairly fascinating and aggressively nimble.

The crucial failure of the film was the cartoonish scattershot ending, out of step with the film's prior serious, realistic tone and cinematic visual effects. Was like Elm St' Dream Warriors breakdanced into The Exorcist. A more visceral and emotionally accessible lead, plus a more realistic stark ending would have solidified an otherwise solid effort.

I love it. It's in my top three Cronenberg films. I really love the pacing and the entire look of the film. I think this was the first of his movies that I ever saw and it has stuck with me for what must be 30 years now. I do love Videodrome a bit more, but this is probably second on my list.

They Live -

When I watch this movie it always seems to be relevant. I don't know why. People who have never seen it or haven't seen it in a while should watch it. Another classic Carpenter movie.

I saw this in the theatre with my sister. It was so scary, I hung a handkerchief off my glasses (yes, I was old even back then). I was trying to get a laugh out of my sister but secretly I was scared sh*tless.

VAULT OF HORROR (1973). Amicus anthology that isn't as much fun as TALES FROM THE CRYPT or ASYLUM, but certainly not bad. My favorite story is the incredibly anal Terry-Thomas ("A place for everything and everything in it's place!) who drives his wife to extreme measures with his nitpicking. ***

Re-Animator

Sleep? Pfft what's that.

The Boy Who Cried Werewolf

Sooooo glad I was able to record this when it was on tv. It's one of my unappreciated werewolf favorites. The muzzle design was so well done and inspired, I'm surprised make-up artists weren't further influenced by it. Really a waste, but the movie has more going for it than just that. Like Bible thumping hippies!

Watched about half last night and the rest tonight. Never seen it. Glad you recommended it. My cup of tea.

THE TERMINATOR (1984) Wife and I saw this with our Best Man (a couple of months before tying the knot) and she literally chewed her nails to the quick. Despite the cheesy 80's fashion/music, still an incredible bad assed thrill ride with lots of actors I like. Worth seeing again and again. ****1/2

Yeah, I own the DVD, so I've watched it lots of times. For me, it's cheesy 80s goodness. Some of the acting is really terrible (blonde chick), but, I really love this movie.
