ive been taking a break from the MCU movies to watch Ozark ..

I stopped half way through Black Panther.

Although i think it's an incredibly important film, and i really like the character and the actor who plays him, i wasn't a huge fan of the movie.
I felt the exact same way about Aquaman .. and i cant help but draw so many parallels between the 2 films. Hidden advance civilisations, the hero is royalty, a lot of flash and dash but nothing unexpected .. etc.

Black Panther is technically a good movie and as i said - a huge cultural landmark in cinema history - but i couldn't connect to it. Never saw the comic as a kid either .. which is probably a huge contributor to how i feel about it.

I do like the character/actress who plays his scientist/sister .. she's a lot of fun.

I thought Black Panther was ok, but I thought they went a boring route. It's been a few years since I've seen it, but basically I thought the best part of the story was Erik Stevens/N'Jadaka abandoned in America who returns home take the throne and plans to share Wakanda's technology with people of African descent around the world to help them conquer their oppressors. If the film had him do that for an extended time, and not just be some kind of arms dealer, that would have been a very interesting main story, but instead it was this side story that didn't fit so well.

RED EYE (2005). I like this Wes Craven thriller...pretty suspenseful and Rachel Mcadams/Cillian Murphy have good chemistry. ***1/2

The Sacrament (2013), directed by Ti West.

Pretty decent found-footage movie. It's more thriller than horror. The plot is loosely based on the story of Jim Jones and "Jonestown". The first half of the movie was quite promising, then it was only disturbing.

Hagazussa (2017), directed by Lukas Feigelfeld.

Beautiful landscapes, dark atmosphere... The movie itself is quite heavy in reception - it shows how a person who is totally isolated and excluded can be overwhelmed by paranoia and insanity. Well, it's a symbolic picture, quite "silent" (there isn't much talking). Rather for people who liked the haunting atmosphere of The Vvitch (2015)... I personally didn't like any of them much.

Kraftidioten (2014), directed by Hans Petter Moland.

Thanks urgeok2 for recommending me that one. Crime drama with a hint of black comedy, quite refreshing and totally to my taste. ::cool::

It was definitely funny, although before watching this movie I read somewhere that it is a thriller so I was a little bit surprised finding it amusing. ::big grin:: There's something appealing to me in this sense of humour, e.g. I liked Hellfjord very much, made me laugh a lot. I dunno if you watched it, it's a Norwegian TV mini-series.
