Haven't see this one in a while, forgot what a wonderful character study it is. I know there are a lot of people on this site who wouldn't like it as there is no blood and very little action, but the story is original and suspenseful.

Newb, Alky, Miss Olivia, StygianWitch, Urge - this one's for you.

Thanks for the tip, i'll look it up :)

Quentin Tarintino has nothing to do with The Protector...

Actually he is presenter/producers on this film, similar to his connection with Hostel, Iron Monkey, Killing Zoe etc.

He places his name on films that fit his sensibility, knowing that it will draw a certain audience to the theaters.

So...you're wrong.

Gridiron Gang

As Ive mentioned before, Im not a big football fan (or sports fan in general)...I really dont know why I let my friends drag me to these things.

This one is cliché to the max. Most of the actors arent too bad, but every second of this film is predictable within the first 5 minutes. Maybe I'd reccomend this if you're a big sports buff, but I really didnt enjoy it much.

Well, Tarinto doesn't TECHNICALLY have anything to do with this film, as he was not involved in any way other then sticking his name on it. He did not contribute anything to the film itself. Ie - a role, directing, photography, writing, etc.

As Posher was saying, he's going to see it because IT'S Tarintino, which I understood as saying "Hey, it's not my cup of tea... but it's a work by Tarinto. He usually does really good stuff, so it must have some redeeming qualities." But he isn't involved with it, so that thought would be false. I don't see why he would stick his name on it unless, in most cases, he is friends with someone on the set like with Hostel. I don't see how Quentin would promote that film otherwise if not being friends with Roth.

I also scanned IMDb and didn't see his involvement in anything technical. Didn't even know he attached his name to it, as they seem to prefer promoting Tony Jaa instead.

exactly why his name is on it - get the asses in the seats.

but I get your point - he isn't "creatively" involved, but his name in the marketing campaign is gold.

Hollywood is a business. Much like the stock market, people can buy chunks of films, put in a bit of cash...these people are the producers.

Tarintino is pretty well off, so he can buy pretty large chunks of movies. They're investments. If he reads a screenplay, and it sounds good to him, he'll bite.

So when a movie, like this one or Hostel, is tagged "presented" or "produced" by Quentin Tarintino, it's mostly saying 'Mr. Tarintino had faith in this film, so check it out'. As Rod said, he's a big name. He will put the asses in the seats.

Quinten helped cut it from 104 (or something) minutes to around 80 but that's about it... did you see Ong Bok? It's a vehicle to show off Tony Jaa doing all his own stunts with no strings/cgi/etc and his wicked Mui Thai. I'm waiting for the DVD (which for sure will have the original uncut version) but really I'm not expecting a plot.
