I never knew that about Frankie Goes to Hollywood.
I really loved them back in the 80s, they freaked me out and the "Two Tribes" video with Reagan and Gorbachev killing each other in a death match was outstanding!
I guess by punk ethic I mean the d.i.y. attitude. Funny though, with the possible exception of maybe the Damned, most of the bands that we might consider "old school punk" really weren't all that much. They all had managers and scored major label deals. Oh, and check out that Sex Pistols doc. "The Filth and the Fury" to see how huge their record deals were. Of course the band didn't make a dime, but Malcolm McClaren made off like a bandit!
Today its Chad Rex & the Victorstands.... rootsy midwestern rock with a Buffalo Tom/Paul Westerberg kinda thing going on.
