Back to Back: The Thing '51 & '82
The Thing from Another World (1951)
http://img821.imageshack.us/img821/6680/thething51.jpg Though it may loosely based on Campbell's original story but still it was pleasantly entertaining and surely 50's one of the best sci-fi output for the genre. >>: A- |

First time viewing, and I was very impressed. Boasting of a background score by Ennio Morricone, Barbara Steele is very much in her elements as she performs her dual roles to perfection, and the haunting atmosphere really adds to the mood of the film. Recommended to all fans of vintage gothic Italian horror, and to Steele fans too, but of course. |

The War of the Worlds-1953
The feeling of impending doom is what really makes this movie. Might sound stupid but i think this version feels more real than the (awful) remake. I couldnt imagine how the audience felt after watching this at a drive thru or theater when it was first realeased. The whole way home everyone in the car was probably looking up at the sky waiting to see one of the alien spaceships breaking thru a cloud. Must have scared people senseless back in the day. |
House on Haunted Hill (1958)
The Bat (1959) Last Man on Earth (1964) You gotta love Vincent Price..... May he Rest in Piece. |
