depends on what movie.
If its an action horror flick or suspense thriller, like red eye for suspense, orsomething. theater. Seeing the new dawn of the dead in theaters was insane! it made it 3 times as scary at least. the fog in theaters........... ugh:mad: |
I prefer home viewing.
There's just too many factors involved in movie-going that piss me off...crowded theatres sometimes, kids that simply need to be taught to shut the fuck up during a movie (step in parents...) I mean sure...I don't wanna tell anyone to not take their kids to movies, but I think that honestly if theyre younger than five, they should only be able to go to certain sessions. What else...crappy overpriced food, filthy bathrooms (sometimes), the whole phone thing - there's always SOME cunt that leaves it on. People talking at an extra-loud volume, thinking that the cinema environment magically transforms them into the funniest person ever...but theyr'e not..., occasional B.O issues, feet on seats, chair kicking, people having no idea how much distance to keep from you when the place is relatively empty....I'm sure there's more, but there's nearly always three or more of these factors goin' on at any given time. At home, I have a selection of many more films on both dvd and vhs....sure, they're not as new, but whatever, at least the ones I own are ones I'm garaunteed to like, so, less dissapointment, I also have a very large tv, pretty decent sound system. I'm at home, more relaxed...and hey, if you gotta let one rip, you don't gotta worry. Better selection of food more often than not, I can have anything I like, and not pay 5 times the average market price. Not to mention pizza...pizza and movies...great combination - just you try and order a pizza at a cinema. Nope. Bathroom is nearby, and the ability to actually PAUSE something is available. Less people cuts down on the majority of the "piss off" factors. If my phone rings, I can pause, and answer it...while not being an inconsiderate fuckwad who interrupts the movie of those that don't have the option to pause. That, and...I really don't get into going out that much...and when I do, there's many better things to be doing than going to overpriced movies. Sure, if it was absolutely JUST down to viewing...like say, if I had my own personal cinema...sure, it's gotta be the cinema, but taking all connected factors into account, I definately prefer home viewing. |
DVD...I hardly never go to the cinema anymore....

I like both...
I very rarely go out to the cinema nowadays, but there's nothing like going to a theatre with the pretty lights and the carpeting, and the smell of the popcorn oozing out of the walls, and the fact that once the movie starts, it doesn't stop for you or anybody...the cinema feels "alive" in a way that home video does not... Home video is cool too, the whole snack thing as mentioned elsewhere is easier. Variety of programming is what home video is all about. The only problem is having to hit the mice repeatedly with the broom to make them settle down, they are always taking my popcorn and sometimes need a talking to. |
My wife and i haven't been to the threatre for about 3years now. When your working and kids at your side theres no time. But with the price of tickets, food and the movie may suck monkey balls,I would go for staying home to rent,So if it's crap your not out of a lot of money.Dvd is the best,My dvd recorder can transfer vhs to dvd so my collection can last longer in dvd format,Vhs have been known to aged and probelms come about with picture, sound quality. And i agree that you can pause and go to the potty (as my kids say)and its cheaper to buy your own snacks. The future of the threatre is near its end but there will always be afew that will go and see the film on the big screen. To end this an a funy note the only time i can watch a good fright flick is on friday and saturday night late! When my son and daughter are in bed! Then half way through the movie ...Istart to fall asleep!!(Pretty sad).:D

Mostly I prefer to watch DVDs at home. Going to the theater is still great, but many times there are just too many assholes that ruin it.
|
thankfully, most of the people who frequent the mall where the good theater is have shitty taste in movies, the ones I go to aren't usually crowded, and the only people there are the ones who'll shut up and watch the movie

Home Theater
I love to view movies at home. Heres why..One of the latest trends is to release a pg-13 horror movie & three months later the Unrated version comes to DVD. Now I've just paid 20.00 for my girlfriend & me to watch a movie without all of the intended content. Sorry but DVD all the way.. :D
