I've only seen two of his films: Fando y Lis, and a short film called La Cravate.

Cravate was really cool and I enjoyed it immensely. Fando y Lis? Eh, not so much. Wasn't really my cup of tea.

Santa Sangre is really disturbing, gutsy, good stuff. El Topo's great too.

Watched El Topo the night after I posted this - wow. What a great film. If you like surreal cinema, it's essential viewing.

Holy Mountain is one of my favorite films. El Topo is almost as good. The new Jodorowsky box set is out, containing both of those, as well as Fando y Lis, an unreleased movie (La Cravate, which I haven't watched yet), and finally the soundtracks for Holy Mountain and El Topo. It's super affordable ... in the $40-45 dollar range I believe?

Anyway, though not of the "horror" genre per se, certain moments in Holy Mountain are certainly more horrific and disturbing than anything I've seen in a horror-genre film. It's got a bit of '70s stonger cult-movie cheese to it, but not unintentionally ... the ending is one of the all-time classics, and you either love it or hate it.
